While some analysts might be writing off the value of independent app stores, free portal Djuzz is fast racking up the downloads, with BuzzCity claiming the platform has enjoyed a surge in usage.
Its latest stats shows Djuzz enjoyed a 87 percent increase in visitors in May, with downloads rising by 75 percent.
In total, 3.4 million unique users downloaded 2.1 million games across Java, Symbian and Android platforms during May, with BuzzCity claiming the site is now supported by 130 partners pushing out 5,000 games from 60 different developers.
Buzz around Djuzz
"The Djuzz Catalogue has allowed us to provide consumers with more channels through which to access free gaming content," said BuzzCity CEO KF Lai.
"The growth in interest reflects high demand across different market segments represented by our catalogue partners.
"We believe we have barely even scratched the surface of the free mobile gaming market and the opportunities ahead for our partners and advertisers are significant."
BuzzCity reports that India is its biggest market, with 877,238 downloads in May.
Western markets appear to be less of a priority, with sales in the US totalling 118,367 in comparison only the fourth biggest market.
The top title across the month was Life Expectancy Calculator with more than 116,000 downloads, although Fatal Fist, in second place with more than 66,000 downloads, represents the biggest game in the countdown.
