Not content with letting Google set the pace with the Samsung-developed Nexus S, LG has unveiled its next high-end Android release the Optimus 2X.
As hinted in its name, the handset will come with a dual-core 1GHz Tegra 2 processor a world first, according to LG enabling it to sport powerful multimedia features and deliver multitasking with almost no lag.
HD for LG
The Optimus 2X will also come with full 1080p HD video playback on the handset itself, as well as the HDMI mirroring to enable playback on external displays, such as HDTVs.
"Dual-core technology is the next leap forward in mobile technology so this is no small achievement to be the first to offer a smartphone utilising this technology," said LG CEO and president, Dr. Jonh-seok Park.
"With unique features such as HDMI mirroring and exceptional graphics performance, the LG Optimus 2X is proof of LGs commitment to highend smartphones in 2011."

Also on board are more standard features, such as an accelerometer, gyro sensor, and two cameras 8MP on the back, with the front-facing camera sporting a more modest 1.3MP.
LG claims the Optimus 2X will roll out first in South Korea, with Europe and the rest of Asia following on at a later, as of yet unannounced, date.
Initially shipping with Android 2.2 (Froyo), LG claims users will later be offered the option to upgrade to version 2.3 (Gingerbread), although, again, no fixed date for such a transition has been given.
