Following on from the removal of Gensoid at the request of Sega, Google has pulled a further six console emulators from Android Market, blocking the developer behind them in the process.
According to Engadget, Nesoid, Snesoid, N64oid, Ataroid, Gearoid and Gameboid have all disappeared from the marketplace without warning.
Emulating history
Yong Zhang, who is behind the latest emulators to fall foul, says he received no warning from Google, and has also had his developer account blocked.
The move against him follows similar action taken against ZodTTD, who had his developer accounts frozen when his PSX4Droid emulator was removed from sale at the end of March.
Via a post on his blog, he claimed Google's action has "nothing to do with any sort of open source licensing violation".
Instead, PSX4Droid was apparently removed following a trademark infringement letter from Sony to Google regarding the emulator's icon.
Free for all
"Both Yong and I handle developer relations behind the scenes," he said.
"We give cuts to original authors at times, and I have posted sources to my source repository. Though there is a lot of rhetoric surrounding this, it is not an issue."
As a result, Yong has taken to offering his roster of emulators on third-party app store SlideME for free, allowing existing customers to receive the latest updates without having to pay out for a second time.
