Rumours pointing towards a 7-inch HP TouchPad are nothing new, but it's taken a filing made by HP with the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to plant the device firmly on the radar.
Early coverage suggested said filing was for a 4GB version of the current model, but a closer look has revealed one of the documents makes reference to 'TouchPad Go', linking up with a trademark recently registered by HP.
Touch and Go
It's believed TouchPad Go is, in fact, the new name for the 7-inch Opal that online reports cited back in January.
At the time, the original TouchPad hadn't even been unveiled, yet leaked renders of what later proved to be the current model then named Topaz flagged HP's entry into the market long before it was unveiled.
Those analysing the current FCC filing claim TouchPad Go will be available in four versions, including 16GB and 32GB releases both with and without HSPA+.
Price points
Meanwhile, after temporarily dropping the price of the existing TouchPad in the States as part of a weekend long promo push, HP has decided said price points are to be adopted permanently.
As a result, the 16GB version will now retail for $399.99 and the 32GB release $499.99 both $100 down from their original RRPs.
HP senior VP Stephen DiFranco said the company had been "pleased with customer response" to the price cuts, which allow TouchPad "to be even more price-competitive in the marketplace."
