When one of the world's top Android manufacturers starts fluttering its eyelashes at Windows Phone, you know it's good news for Microsoft.
Indeed, while Windows Phone sales news has been anything but impressive to date, HTC claims Microsoft's OS has still managed to account for 30 percent of its overall unit sales since launch.
That's an especially impressive feat, given HTC rivals only Samsung for the position of top Android OEM.
Winning with Windows
"We believe that Windows Phone 7 will eventually be better than other platforms and will give Android a run for its money," said country manager at HTC Singapore Melvin Chua, going on to compare excitement for the next version of the platform dubbed Mango to that for HTC's very first Windows Mobile.
Chua's comments were echoed by director of marketing and operations at Microsoft Singapore John Fernandes, who said developers are also becoming increasing enthusiastic about the firm's OS.
"We have over 30,000 apps in less than a year since we launched Marketplace, making Windows Phone as one of the fastest growing mobile app marketplaces," he stated.
"This is an endorsement of Microsoft's continued support of the developer communities globally as well as the proven Windows Phone developer platform. We expect this growth momentum of Marketplace to be stronger with the launch of Windows Phone 7.5."
Microsoft began rolling out Mango across Europe and the US on September 27, with the aim of reaching all handsets by the end of October.
