Apple's iPad has been clearly leading the media tablet market since its inception, selling over 11 million units in the past quarter alone.
Its in stark contrast from the numbers touted in Motorola Mobility's most recent financials. In Q3 2011, it shipped just 100,000 of its Xoom tablets to retailers.
It places the Xoom device firmly in the shadow of the Apple tablet, along with almost every other tablet out there, according to research.
I need a dollar
Motorola Mobility posted GAAP net revenues of $3.3 billion for the three month period ending October 1. This was up 20 percent from Q3 2010.
It posted an operating loss of $41 million.
During the quarter, it shipped a total of 11.6 million mobile devices, including 4.8 million smartphones.
Total cash at the end of the quarter was $3.3 billion
On the up
"Our third quarter revenues in Mobile Devices increased by 20 percent, driven by continued strong growth in international markets," said Sanjay Jha, chairman and chief executive officer at Motorola Mobility.
"With the recent launch of our iconic Motorola RAZR, we now have several 4G LTE devices in our portfolio. We are also excited about the proposed merger with Google and continue to make progress to close this transaction."
Motorola was recently acquired by Google in a $12.5 billion deal.
Details have also begun to emerge about Motorola's upcoming Xoom 2 tablet.
