David Perry, Ian Livingstone and David Braben to speak at Develop
David Perry, Ian Livingstone, Philip Oliver, and David Braben will all take to the stage at this year's Develop in Brighton conference as part of the event's new visionaries track.

Gakai's David Perry and Blitz Game Studios' Philip Oliver will each present a half hour 'Reloaded' session, focusing on their experience of game development in the 1980s.

They'll also examine the lessons that can be learnt from their time as bedroom coders.

"It's a great opportunity for us old-timers to share what we’ve learned with upcoming developers," explained Perry, whose talk is titled 'Earthworm Jim: A game. A character. A legend.'

Oliver will present a session called 'Adventures on the ZX Spectrum.'

Next generation

David Braben will discuss on his work on the Raspberry Pi project, a $25 'PC' which he hopes will encourage a new generation of bedroom coders.

Ian Livingstone, life president of Eidos, will lead a wide-ranging session titled 'From Dungeons to Downing Street.' In his own words: "The new digital landscape requires new skills and access to finance for the next generation of creative talent to succeed."

"From my experiences with Games Workshop, Fighting Fantasy, Eidos, working with government and investing in Indies, I hope to help point the way."

The lowdown

The visionaries track slots into a conference schedule that's already stuffed to the gills. 10 July sees the event kick off with the one-day Evolve conference, focusing on new platforms and digital business and featuring a keynote session delivered by Valve's Jason Holtman.

The main Develop conference then runs from 11-12 July, featuring the Indie Dev Day track, and a new half-day conference dedicated solely to Indie Dev Marketing.

Early bird pricing is available on tickets purchased on or before 13 June, with 3-day passes priced at £550.

For more information on the range of ticketing options available, and a full list of speakers, check out the Develop in Brighton website.
