As ever in Apple's WWDC keynotes, the 2012 edition has heavy with stats.
Kicking off his iOS 6 reveal Scott Forstall, Apple's senior vice president of iOS software, talked about the success of iOS and Apple hardware to-date.
365 million iOS devices had been sold by 30 March 2012 (an old stat), and more than 80 percent of active customers are running iOS 5.
Forstall compared this to the 4 percent of Android users on the most up-to-date Android 4.0 (aka Ice Cream Sandwich).
Compare and contrast
Obviously, one some senses, it's a fairly meaningless comparison as Android is an open OS, with operators and OEMs often restricting the update cycle. For the record, around two thirds of Android users are on version 2.3 (aka Gingerbread), although that's not to say that fragmentation isn't an issue for developers.
Forstall also broke out Game Center stats, saying there are over 130 million users; something that will be increased as the gaming network is now supported cross-platform in the OS X Mountain Lion release for Apple computers.
Game Center users post 5 billion scores every week, while Twitter integration into iOS 5 has resulted in 10 billion tweets, 47 percent of which are photos.
And also underscoring the importance of social communication channels, Apple says that over 1.5 trillion push notifications have been sent to users, although it didn't hazard a guess about how many were viewed as spam.
