Red Robot Labs has announced it's committing more than $2 million to the expansion of third party mobile game publishing on its R2 platform for location-based games.
The platform already underpins Red Robot Labs' own Android and iOS hit Life Is Crime, and Asian company Next Media became the first third-party developer to license R2.
Now, the company is offering developers funding and revenue share options, publishing rights under Red Robot Labs, and access to its location-based technology and expertise.
Platform partners
Box of Robots and 50 Cubes have both announced their plans to develop on the platform, and so has UK developer ShortRound, which will be making use of Red Robot's technology for its forthcoming game, Global Outbreak.
"When we were looking to create cool new location features into Global Outbreak, the R2 platform gave us a huge head start on the location elements in our design; only the R2 platform offered what we were looking for," said ShortRound Games founder Andy Hubbard.
"Red Robot is at the forefront of mobile, location-based games and we are excited to be part of their lineup."
Robotic valve
"There is a huge pool of talented game developers who developed for consoles and social games that have approached us with awesome location-based game ideas," explained Red Robot Labs CEO Mike Ouye.
"With phone and tablet power capabilities rapidly increasing, alongside player expectations, we aim to be at the centre of this growth, by investing and collaborating with all of our R2 dev partners, including our three newest teams: Box of Robots, ShortRound and 50 Cubes.
"This is our first step towards our goal of becoming the Steam of mobile."
