Kicking off its run on the unconsole market, Green Throttle has launched its Android-based Atlas Controller for Kindle Fire HD, enabling users to use the device as a portable games console.
With prices starting at $39.95 - a two-player bundle priced at $89.99 - the controller taps into games listed on Green Throttle's own Arena application, with titles playable on a TV via a micro HDMI cable.
Enter the Arena
The app in question highlights compatible games and enables users to easily pair controllers with their device.
At launch, a portfolio of five compatible games is available through the Green Throttle Arena, and two more are promised in the next few days.
Moving forward, Green Throttle Games plans to launch new games for the Arena platform on weekly basis.
"The global video game market is poised for the next round of innovation," explained Green Throttle Games co-founder and CEO Charles Huang.
"With the Atlas Controller and Arena platform, we're bringing the convenience and a next level gaming experience to consumers in an inexpensive and thoughtful way."
Hop aboard
Interested developers should note that Green Throttle Games recently unveiled software plug-ins for Unity, Marmalade and the Corona SDK, and that the company has partnered with GameStick creators PlayJam to ensure the Atlas controller compatibility.
The company claims it is "already working with other 'unconsole' makers such as GameStick to ensure the products work together".
As such "more strategic partnerships" will be announced throughout the course of 2013.
