Developer BioWare is well-known for its PC games, most recently Mass Effect (which was also released on Xbox 360).
However, it seems the company also has its sights on the iPhone, judging by comments made in an interview with MTV, as reported by Touch Arcade:
"We look at every platform that comes along. Obviously, something that's as big a cultural and technical success as the iPhone is something you really got to take a close look at. Certainly, there's nothing written in stone yet but we've got a lot of folks looking at it. It's intriguing," says co-CEO Greg Zeschuk.
"We want to understand what people are going to do with it. Who knows. We're definitely looking at every platform."
The Mass Effect: iPhone Edition rumours start here. But the comments illustrate a wider trend (and potential issue): the fact that console and PC developers and publishers are more interested in the iPhone than other mobile platforms.
But what does this mean for the mobile publishers who'd normally be licensing these firms' gaming brands for mobile? In other words, would someone like BioWare prefer to make iPhone games itself rather than license them out to a mobile firm?
It will be interesting to see if console and PC publishers see iPhone as more like mobile (so they'll seek partners) or more like PSP/DS (so they'll publish for it themselves) in the coming months.
