Capcom has announced that total downloads of Smurfs' Village and Zombie Cafe have surpassed the 10 million mark on the App Store.
The figure which presumably includes both iPhone and iPad versions has been amassed within the past four months, with the publisher claiming the titles combined can call on an impressive 6.5 million monthly active users (MAUs).
Social success
"Our first foray into free social gaming on iOS has been successful beyond our wildest imaginations," said president and CEO Midori Yuasa.
"In terms of both revenue and performance these games have been astounding. In the coming months we look forward to further building-up these communities and expanding our catalogue of social games."
Capcom also reports Smurfs' Village was the number one top-grossing app in 55 countries at launch.
Purchase problems
However, while the raw figures suggest Capcom's transformation into a major freemium force has gone without hitch, the publisher currently finds itself tangled up in controversy surrounding the IAP model practised by these type of games, especially in the context of kids' game Smurfs' Village.
Apple itself has reportedly vented its discontent with Capcom following complaints by customers that players are able to mount up huge bills unawares.
Though the publisher has denied any form of disagreement between the two parties has taken place, it's since been revealed that the Federal Trade Commission in the US is set to investigate in-app purchases following the press coverage afforded Capcom's flagship freemium release.
