A record-breaking 1.76 billion iOS and Android applications were downloaded in the one-week period beginning Christmas Day, according to mobile app analytics outfit Flurry.
What's more, a total of 328 million apps were downloaded on the big day itself.
It's a rush that's moved Flurry to proclaim that the seven day run between Christmas Day and New Years Eve played host to the highest number of application downloads "of any week in history."
Record-breakers
Compared to an early-December baseline, the record-breaking holiday week delivered a 65 percent surge in app downloads, smashing previous benchmarks set during the same week in 2011.
Flurry has also charted the global distribution of these installs, noting that the US accounted for 34 percent app downloads during the final festive week of 2012.
China took second place in terms of downloads, despite the fact that Christmas is not widely celebrated in the region, and the UK slotted into third place.
The top three may be unsurprising, but Flurry observed that countries such as Italy and Mexico significantly over-indexed during the period, overtaking non-Christian countries with higher levels of smartphone penetration.
Devices, too
It wasn't just app downloads that enjoyed a surge during the festive season, though. The exchanging of holiday gifts also prompted a tremendous increase in device activations.
17.4 million iOS and Android devices were activated on Christmas day alone, according to Flurry's estimates. That represents a 332 percent increase compared to the average daily device activations from 1 20 December 2012.
And in the seven days from 25 December 31 December, a total of 50 million iOS and Android devices were activated.
As such, Flurry believes that one week now holds the record for "the highest number of device activations and app downloads of any week in history."
