Mobile publisher Gameloft (GFT.PA) has announced its fourth quarter financials figures for 2009.
Total sales during the three month period ending 31st December were 31.8 million, a drop 6 percent year-on-year.
Gameloft said this was due currency variation in the exchange rate between the euro and the dollar, as well as its withdrawal from the sale of boxed retail games. During 2008, it released some causal games, notably for the Nintendo DS.
Stripping out these factors, like-for-like Q4 sales were up 7 percent.
Total sales during the year were 122 million, up 11 percent on 2008's 110.3 million.Rising on the App Store
Much more significant however was the performance of Gameloft's mobile and iPhone game sales.
Full year revenues from mobile game sales (94 percent of total sales) were up 12 percent, thanks mainly to the performance of iPhone games. (The remaining 6 percent of sales came from Gameloft's digital distribution on the likes of DSiWare and WiiWare.)
Gameloft said that during Q4, iPhone revenue was 7.0 million, up 115 percent, and much higher than the predicted 4.4 million.
Over the entire year, the total from iPhone sales was 17.6 million, or 14 percent of the mobile total.
In keeping with French accounting practises, Gameloft will announce its full 2009 financials on 23 March.
The company expects its profit margin to substantially higher at between 8 and 9 percent compared to 3 percent in 2008.
