Promises 'Advance Wars with RPG elements'

Indie developer Luc Bernard gets into iPhone
Independent developer Luc Bernard has given more details on his new company, which will be creating games for multiple platforms, including iPhone, WiiWare and PC.

He hasn't revealed the company's name or its investors, although it will be Florida-based. In a blog post, Bernard gives details of the firm's first iPhone game:

"This game will be similar to Advance Wars but with rpg elements in it, I don't want to say too much about it or the title yet, but it's set in the same world as Eternity's Child."

The latter was a game released by Bernard for PC earlier this year, which was the centre of controversy when it received stinking reviews in the US. The man himself is talking up his new project, though.

"The lead programmer on it, has worked at EA so he's really good. And has actually in the past worked on strategy games, so he's helping design it, the difference maybe between Advance Wars and this game is the environment, how that works well you will see once the game comes out. I don't want to reveal too much but I am quite proud of it, it's beautifully designed."

This could be a trend for 2009: independent developers looking to release their games across iPhone, WiiWare and other platforms offering them digital distribution channels direct to consumers.
