Since it announced its release on Android, the worlds first adult-only mobile app store MiKandi (age rated 18+) has been open for mobile app developers who want to explore the rich vein of mature content.
Or as MiKandi president Jesse Adams puts it: Yes, we proudly support porn. But what gets our blood really pumping is having the creative freedom to develop incredibly engaging lifestyle apps.
As a promotional video says - this is the app store that treats you like an adult.
To-date, the MiKandi app has been downloaded over 80,000 times, in the fullness of disclosure, twice by me.
Its available via mobile download for Android devices, with thirdparty developer apps accessible from within the portal.
And BlackBerry and WimMo will apparently be supported soon. As for iPhone? It ain't going to happen.
If you have the correct device though, applications can harness the full power of Androids capabilities including GPS, voice recognition, video capture and accelerometers, although as our investigative research has determined most apps, such as PhonErotica and Spunky Girls (which are installed as separate, free apps from within the MiKandi store), seem to have gone for the photos and short videos standard.
To-date, there doesn't seem to be any paid content available.
However, the founders of MiKandi want developers to push the boundaries.
Adult games, adult books, adult comics, adult humour, adult video... we want people to think about more than just pornography," says MiKandi president Jesse Adams.
We have to point out, in accordance with its company policy, MiKandi does not try to restrict or censor the applications submitted to the app store. But at the moment of registration, developers will assume full responsibility for the content provided.
MiKandi also points out that the discovery of illegal applications will result in the immediate termination of the application and possible legal action against the developer in question.
