iPad library hits 10,000, more than 2,100 games on board

Device's line-up growing faster than iPhone and Android

iPad library hits 10,000, more than 2,100 games on board
iPad's television spots might note that users can access 'nearly 200,000 apps and counting', but as we know, the number of native apps falls far below such a figure.

Their number is fast rising, however, with MacStories reporting there are now more than 10,000 iPad apps available for sale on the App Store, with games making up around 21 percent – 2,107 games in total.

Growing at pace

The website reports iPad gains around 200 apps every day during the working week, with new entrants slowing at the weekend.

Indeed, a fellow report by Padgadget– which also supports the 10,000 app figure – suggests iPad is outpacing iPhone in app growth by some margin, with iPhone having taken almost five months to hit the 10,000 apps mark, compared to iPad's 63 days.

The site also notes it took Android Market 11 months to reach the same figure.

Ever expanding
MacStories predicts the 20,000 mark should be passed at some point during August, with the device topping 35,000 native apps by the end of the year.

As you might expect, paid apps are firmly in control in terms of sheer number, making up 78 percent of the iPad apps on sale.

This represents a higher rate than on iPhone, which has a split of around 75 percent paid apps to 25 percent free.
