With many mobile game developers quick to support Samsung's new bada platform, the news it's expecting to double its market share will be welcome.
Interesting though, as well as bada, it's the company's Android-based Galaxy S, which is also being highlighted as driving future sales, at least by some analysts.
Bada meets Android
Previously Samsung had said it expected to ship 15 million bada phones in 2010, with a total install base of around 50 million by the end of 2011.
Now Lee Donjoo, senior vice president of company's Mobile Communications Division said it hoped to raise its market share for smartphones from the current level of less than five percent to over 10 percent in Q4.
If fulfilled, it would see the company jump Taiwanese rival HTC - ironically the current biggest Android vendor - becoming the fourth biggest smartphone maker behind Nokia, RIM and iPhone.
Certainly it will be fascinating to see the breakdown between the different OSes that Samsung smartphones are supporting, with Windows Phone 7 also expected to be in the mix.
