Rumoured so many times it had become something of an internet meme, Engadget appears to have obtained shots of what it claims is a forthcoming Android powered PlayStation Phone.
The site states the new device, pictured below, will likely run Android 3.0 also known as Gingerbread and come with a custom Sony Marketplace filled with games specifically designed to take advantage of the new platform.
Also on board is a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655 CPU, along with 512MB of RAM and 1GB of ROM.
Manufactured by Sony Ericsson, the phone's screen is said to be between 3.7 to 4.1 inches in size, with a multitouch touchpad in the centre of the handset handling control.
The phone will also sport traditional PlayStation style shoulder buttons.
Launch imminent?
Speculation surrounding any supposed release date for the device is naturally now in sharp focus.
Engadget reports Sony could well be considering releasing the phone before the end of 2010, despite the fact that the handset pictured is a prototype.
As such, a full release in 2011 would appear more likely, although with Sony yet to offer official comment regarding the device's developer, it could be some time before any sort of launch schedule is made public.
Rumblings and rumours
Talk surrounding a supposed PlayStation Phone is nothing new, however. Rumours regarding its development have hit the web twice this year.
Back in March, Sony was said to be working on several models for release in 2010, each one designed to counter the impact of iPhone and Android on flagging PSP sales.
In August, Engadget reported a Sony Ericsson Android powered phone was now being pitched by the firm, with the device sporting remarkably similar stats to those uncovered by the site today.
