Korea Telecom has signed a deal with Ideaworks Labs that will see scores of developers benefit from its Airplay SDK, helping populate the telecommunication firm's 'olleh' app store in the process.
The partnership will see an olleh branded version of the SDK sent out to Korea Telecom developers, helping them work on apps for KT handsets and tablets, regardless of the operating system they're running.
Fighting fragmentation
"The wide range of devices available in the Korean market today has presented a fragmentation challenge to developers," said KT VP and olleh head WonSik Hahn.
"Through this partnership with Ideaworks Labs utilising its popular Airplay SDK, our developer program will be able to better serve our content partners by providing access to millions of customers with content for a wide range of devices, without compromising on the quality and performance of their applications."
The agreement described as 'multi-year' will allow KT developers to cut down on costs by working on multiple platforms all at once.
App happy
It's an advantage that will resonate with many studios, given the increasing wealth of smartphone platforms available, and one Ideaworks has long pushed.
"Developers no longer need to worry about which operating system to support for the rapidly expanding range of feature phone, smartphone and tablet devices," said Ideaworks president Alex Caccia.
"Instead, developers can use Airplay SDK to focus on building differentiated applications which are optimised for individual hardware configurations, and make them available through the KT 'olleh' app store."
