Christmas has come early for Tap Tap Revenge studio Tapulous this year, with the latest release in the series having shot straight to the top of the App Store just hours after release.
In all, it's the sixth time a Tap Tap title has risen to the summit of Apple's countdown, with the game's launch already twice as big as its predecessor's debut, according to Tapulous founder Bart Decrem.
Tap tap to the topSpeaking to TechCrunch, Decrem who now serves as SVP and General Manager for Disney Mobile - said downloads are topping 25,000 an hour, which is around the same rate the publisher's titles amassed on Christmas day last year.
That's a significant comparison, given Christmas day is traditionally a bumper day for downloads, with new iPhone and iPod touch owners trying out the App Store for the first time.
He also suggested it might be the studio's fastest selling launch title ever, though he wasn't willing to offer a definitive statement on that score.
Decrem added that total series sales are now nearing 50 million.
The game's launch comes just over five months after Tapulous was purchased by Disney.
