Rumour: Nokia to unveil MeeGo powered N9 at MWC 2011
Despite making a favourable impression on many critics, Nokia's N8 – sporting the latest version of Symbian – is yet to turn the tide against iPhone and Android if early sales figures are to be believed.

Nokia, of course, has another trick up its sleeve, and one it will unveil to the world at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February.

Go go MeeGo

That's according to Engadget, which claims to have been tipped off by Finnish site Prosessori.

Both sites are reporting that Nokia will lift the lid on its first MeeGo powered handset, the N9, at the event, with a view to building some serious momentum in the US.

N9 will reportedly come equipped with Intel's 1.2GHz Atom processor and a slide away keypad, with the device set to take pride of place during Nokia CEO Stephen Elop's keynote speech.

MeeGo, which has been co-developed with Intel, is regarded by many as Nokia's best chance of gaining a foothold in the smartphone market in the US and western Europe, with the majority of the firm's success now emanating from developing markets and sales of feature phones.

Nokia's current sole smartphone platform of choice, Symbian, has suffered a number of setbacks of late, with many questioning its longterm future as a result.
