Having been left stood at the altar by onetime partner Nokia, Intel is in a hurry to make up ground to ensure its MeeGo OS has a future when the platform finally being to roll out on tablets and smartphones.
A large part of determining its success or failure will come down to the amount of developer support it's able to muster, and, in turn, the number of apps deployed.
Though already committed to the platform, Chinese internet portal service Tencent is set to step up its role in a bid to serve up titles for MeeGo.
Solid as oak
The company has announced it has launched a joint Innovation Center with Intel, with the specific intention of bringing games and apps to MeeGo devices equipped with Intel's new Oak Trail processor.
The Innovation Center's roster of engineers will be boosted from 60 to 100 by the end of 2011, reports MobileBeat, while Tencent will simultaneously be the major provider for online games on one of the first Oak Trail equipped gaming platforms: Razer's Switchblade.
The portable gaming device, which will launch first in China, is currently scheduled to run Windows 7 and will play host to four online games (League of Legends, Dungeon & Fighter, Crossfire and QQ Speed) with a combined monthly userbase of 130 million.
Though currently committed to Microsoft's platform, both Tencent and Razer have already noted that Switchblade could be a perfect vehicle for MeeGo, though Intel will be keen to sign a concrete deal if its partnership with the Chinese firm is to bear further fruit for the OS come launch.
