Intel has made taking on ARM's current superiority in the smartphone and tablet processor market a prime target for Oak Trail, its new processor platform.
In total, the company has claimed up to 35 devices will ship with Oak Trail equipped before the end of 2011.
Unseating ARM will be some task, however: major players such as Nvidia's Tegra, Apple's A4 and A5 and Qualcomm's Snagdragon are all based on ARM architecture.
Only way is up
It's a situation that has lead to ARM president Tudor Brown confidently predicting that, not only will the Cambridge based firm hold its position, it'll expand it by some distance in the years to come.
Speaking in Taipei, Bloomberg claims Brown stated that ARM's current share of the mobile processor pie sits at 10 percent.
However, by 2015, ARM will have a hand in half of all the handsets shipped to retail.
Much of this growth will come from the general shift towards smartphones by consumers, which will result in a natural upsurge in ARM's share thanks to its current prevalence.
Nonetheless, such growth is to begin immediately, Brown said, with ARM targeting 15 percent of the market by the end of 2011.
