Samsung launches 'most downloads' competition to push Samsung Apps
There's encouraging users to download apps, and then there's plain bribing them.

Though the winners are unlikely to complain, Samsung's new competition treads the fine line between the two, standing more as a question of endurance than skill.

In short, the Korean manufacturer has charged owners of Wave and Galaxy handsets to download as many releases from the Samsung Apps marketplace as they can before September 30.

Download derby

Spanning a total of 95 countries (including the UK, France, Netherlands, Australia and China), no figure has been given as to how many winners will be picked, though up for grabs are the Samsung Notebook Series 9, a wi-fi equipped Galaxy Tab 10.1 and vouchers for Samsung Apps.

"This promotion is designed to reward our loyal customers and encourage more people to experience new and interesting apps," said senior VP of Samsung's Media Solutions Center, Kang-Hyun Kwon.

"Samsung Apps provides an entertaining, useful and enriching smartphone experience by offering a wide array of applications, including locally-relevant services and content."

The marketplace spans both Android and bada handsets, though the next version of the store – featuring an improved UI – will be rolled out with the launch of bada 2.0, due later this year.
