Building on its buyout of Sony Ericsson, Sony has unveiled a new management structure dubbed 'One Sony', with the company looking to combine its respective hands in gaming, mobile and digital imaging.
The company's reorganisation, which will become effective 1 April, appears to be the brainchild of Kaz Hirai, with the newly appointed president and CEO heading up the restructuring.
All for one
It's a move Sony hopes will "drive revitalisation and growth across Sonys core electronics businesses," as well as "significantly reinforce and accelerate Sony's overall business management."
"Sony is positioning digital imaging, game and mobile as the three core pillars of its electronics business, and going forward aims to concentrate its resources in these areas to further reinforce the businesses," the firm said in a statement.
"Sony also plans to accelerate its efforts to drive innovation and new business creation."
It's in the name
Hirai has already detailed a number of high level switches that we see CFO Masaru Kato engaging with department heads.
For starters, CEO Shoji Nemoto will be placed in charge of technology strategies while Kunimasa Suzuki will head up the newly-formed UX and product strategy group.
Suzuki will also oversee the mobile wing of the firm's newly-founded three pillar structure.
The announcement comes after Sony moved to rebadge the now fully owned Sony Ericsson as Sony Mobile Communications back in February.
