Forum Nokia launches WidSets developer service

Get on board for mobile widgets

Forum Nokia launches WidSets developer service
Heard of WidSets? If not, you should definitely investigate it: it's Nokia's mobile widgets platform, and it could be an increasingly useful promotion tool for mobile games companies.

Anyway, Forum Nokia, the developer-focused arm of Nokia, has just announced a new service focused specifically on WidSets.

Located here, it offers documentation, the WidSets SDK, example widgets, and a host of articles and forums to help developers get to grips with it.

"The Forum Nokia developer community welcomes WidSets with open arms," says Tom Libretto, VP of Forum Nokia.

"Our developers consistently create innovative applications and services. With the addition of the WidSets developer offering, they will now have the ability to easily create and publish widgets through WidSets and collaborate with other developers while doing so."

Nokia isn't the only company making mobile widget platforms, mind. Others include Yahoo (through its Go for Mobile application), Qualcomm, Zumobi, Squace, and Qualcomm's recently-announced Plaza platform.

We'll have a proper widgets feature next week, explaining the implications for mobile games developers and publishers. But the topline is this: if widgets become a popular way of discovering mobile content, they'll be a vital tool for games firms to boost discovery of their titles.
