GetJar Gold users top 2.5 million as GameDuell and Vostu sign up

Free app store GetJar continues to build out its reach, thanks to its virtual currency system.

GetJar Gold is a way of incentivising users for their activity, and it appears to be working well, with the company announcing it has 2.5 million users. Two new companies have signed up for the service too, German social gaming specialist GameDuell and Latin American leader Vostu.

The PG.biz Mobile Gaming Mavens on the fine line between drawing inspiration and cloning

Demonstrating that the whole cloning vs inspiration debate continues to fuel widespread discussion, the Mavens' column from February picked up a lot of readers last week, on the back of ustwo's Papa Quash, which was 'based' on JS Joust.

It seems that particular subject is going to run and run.

3DS closing in on 1 million sales in UK

It's not been plain sailing, but thanks to a price cut and continued mass marketing, it seems that Nintendo is making 3DS a success.

According to UK retail figures, the handheld will soon break the 1 million sales barriers, albeit taking three months more than the original DS.

Worldwide, Nintendo recently announced that the 3DS's installed base had reached 17.13 million units for the financial year ending 31 March 2012.

GREE looks to rock E3 with big South Hall stand and opening night party

We'll soon be lost in the joys of E3, and this year, there's a mobile games company sitting at the top table. GREE is underlining its global ambition with big booth in the South Hall, where it will be alongside the likes of Take-Two and Konami.

Of course, at E3, you also need to have a big party; a box GREE will also be ticking on Tuesday night.

Opinion: The 'Nintendo Way' working wonders for resurgent 3DS

Following his opinion piece on the 'likely Dreamcast conclusion' to Sony's PS Vita dream, this week Kristan Reed turned his attention to 3DS.

Citing Nintendo's swift and decisive action in terms of the 3DS price cut, he argued that the future now looks good for the console and company.

"Nintendo is the Pixar of videogames," said Reed.

"Both boast quality levels that are unfailingly consistent, their appeal transcends age and gender, and no-one has ever managed to get near them. Write Nintendo off at your peril."
