Samsung has been flirting with Google's Android platform for what seems like forever, with little hard evidence to show that it's finally got to grips with the smartphone system.
The Samsung Galaxy (coming soon, apparently) has proven to be a highly specced intro, however, with bags of internal memory, a gorgeous OLED screen, very mega-pixel camera and all the trimmings you could want from a shirt pocket computer.
Unfortunately, it also comes with the kind of price tag that means it's not likely to find its way into all that many shirt pockets (more like suit jacket pockets, alongside copies of The Financial Times.
Electric Pig has spotted a new addition to the South Korean manufacturer's roster, in the shape of the Galaxy Lite. As is the trend with hardware (every bit as much as software), a thinned down version is also apparently going into production to get a Samsung Android phone into more hands, with an expected smaller storage, lower camera resolution and less embedded software.
The touchscreen is proving to be an important factor in convincing mobile users to become smartphone users, so an affordable handset from a recognisable name could well give Android a much needed shot in the arm.
