I must admit that although Google's Android platform clearly wasn't going to put Steve Jobs and company on the breadline, I did expect most every new feature rich mobile phone to snap up the free, open source system.
But manufacturers have been slow to adopt Android, with only a couple of handsets actually sporting this fascinating, if undersold operating system.
Korean manufacturer LG has stepped up to increase the Android's profile, however, with its GW620 handset finally having been spotted in the wild by ElectricPig. This compact device was rumoured to be LG's secret weapon, and it does look undeniably sexy.
Its main feature is the slide out QWERTY, which isn't exactly a unique feature these days, but the large, tactile keys in such a small area do suggest it'll be very easy and pleasant to use.
But, as ElectricPig points out, LG might have made a mistake in planting the raw Android seed in such potentially fertile soil. Most developers preparing to adopt Google's platform are making an effort to skin it at the very least, with most adding in their own degree of additional functionality - precisely what the operating system was made for.
Still, this doesn't mean it can't be upgraded in the future, so we'll have to wait and see how well the LG GW620 performs, and whether it'll be a new beginning the company is looking for.
