While Android developers are bemoaning their lot, handset manufacturers are enthused by Google's mobile technology.
The latest company to talk up its future support for Android is Acer.
It launched its smartphone business this year exclusively using Windows Mobile but has just released its debut Android device: the first of many according to Aymar de Lencquesaing, the head of its phone unit.
Talking to Reuters, he said while the company wouldn't be dropping Windows Mobile, he did expect its 2010 line-up to be more balanced in terms of the split between Android and WinMo.
"There is definitely momentum behind Android. The pace is faster than most would have anticipated one year ago," he said.
Still, Acer only plans to release around 8 - 10 devices next year, so compared to the likes of Motorola or even HTC, it's hardly a volume player in the phone market.
Android currently has around 4 percent of smartphone OS market, with Windows Mobile around 9 percent, down from over 13 percent a year ago.
