The news that Apple has expanded App Store promo code distribution worldwide is music to the ears of developers, consumers, and employees of PG.biz sister site Pocket Gamer.
Previously, iTunes users would have to register for a US iTunes account in order to redeem the app download, often sent either for review purposes or as a competition prize.
Foreign aid
In an email sent by the Cupertino-based company to its developer partners, Apple also confirmed that your Team Agent can request 50 codes per version of your app in iTunes Connect.
The international distribution of App Store codes will naturally help developers whose core audience is neither based in the United States nor necessarily composed of English language speakers.
And following the announcement that Apple has banned trial and demo content on its upcoming Mac App Store, MacStories is reporting that promo codes wont be available on the desktop platform.
What's in a name
To no doubt assuage some of the disappointment surrounding those decisions, Apple has relented on Mac OS X app naming conventions.
Developers are now free to give their Mac App Store title the same name as the iOS version, allowing them to maintain the consistency of the brand and make the app easily recognizable to customers.
