Something of a first for the firm, Gameloft's MMORPG Order & Chaos Online has generated $1 million in revenue in its first 20 days on sale, the publisher has revealed.
The game, which launched on both iPhone and iPad at the end of April, was warmly received by critics picking up a bronze award from sister site Pocket Gamer, no less and is pulling in an average of $50,000 every day.
Money matters
"We knew that this first real MMORPG experience for iPhone and iPad would meet the quality standards our customers want," said Gameloft senior VP of publishing Gonzague de Vallois.
"We are pleased to know that our customers have embraced our innovative business model, and we are anxious to further enrich the gaming experience with this first update, which is eagerly anticipated by our fans."
Order & Chaos Online is notable because it employs a subscription model.
Though the game itself costs £3.99/$6.99 to download, players also have to pay 99c per month, $1.99 for three months, or $2.99 for six months after an initial three month free play period is over.
Business practice makes perfect
Its success is as much a cause for celebration at Gameloft as it is an early validation of the subscription based business model on iOS, though Gameloft isn't stopping there.
Further updates to the game are "currently in development", Gameloft has confirmed, with regular updates set to be part of the game's make-up.
An Android version was also confirmed via press release back in May.
