In a move that's likely to be repeated many times over in the coming months, mobile social game developer itsmy has ported its entire catalog over to HTML5.
The German-based developer has always had a web-centric focus, delivering free-to-play casual, social and multiplayer games for mobile browsers.
Now, it's futureproofing itself for the new standard that's expected to get a big push when Facebook formally reveals its Project Spartan platform next week at its f8 show.
The repackaging of itsmy's games means some features of these browser games will now be available offline, as with native apps.
App store, papp store
"We've worked on our game platform for more than a year to create the perfect mobile web app experience for iOS, Android, bada, webOS and Windows Phone," explains Jukka Saarelainen, itsmy's CTO.
"We're proud to offer gamers from all social networks a completely new gaming experience on touchscreen devices, developed in a mix of HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript. For the first time you have the option to play internet games even if you are offline."
Itsmy's CEO Antonio Vince Staybl also pointed out the advantage for the company in terms of supplying the new distribution channels that will emerge.
"All the giant social networks and app stores have distinct HTML5 strategies that are currently undisclosed but ready to launch," he said. "No matter who launches web apps first - Google, Facebook, Apple or Microsoft - we have our blockbuster games ready for distribution."
