Signals expansion into mobile games

6waves Lolapps announces $10 million 6L Fund for mobile and social games
Newly merged firms 6waves and Lolapps have announced the formation of a fund designed to drive creative talent in the mobile and social scene.

The latest of many such schemes - other examples include CrowdStar, MocoSpace, GREE and TinyCo - developers tapping into the 6L Fund will gain access to the firm's suite of publishing services and 40 million monthly users, including help with cross promotion, funded user acquisition, product management, localisation and hosting.

Valid platforms include Facebook, iOS, Android and OpenSocial.

The scheme, billed as a way to 'fuel innovation in the mobile space', will also allow developers to employ Lolapps' Flash-based social game engine Fliso in their titles.

Pushing into mobile games

"There are game teams at all stages in the creative process that have fresh and potentially ground breaking ideas," said Jim Ying, SVP of publishing at 6waves Lolapps.

"With the capital and the resources that only 6waves Lolapps can deliver, they could help shape the future of social gaming,"

6waves Lolapps CEO Rex Ng also hopes the fund will help aid the publisher's push into mobile gaming.

"The 6L Fund not only marks our commitment to the global game development community, it also signals our expansion into mobile games," he said.

"We are tremendously successful in distributing games on social networks and can have a similar impact on mobile platforms, where discovery has become a life or death issue for developers."

Developers looking to access the fund can apply via 6L website from September 27.
