Samsung seems to have found an ally in Verizon Wireless, as the New Jersey-based carrier has officially lodged its opposition to moves from Apple to block Samsung device sales within the US over patent infringement cases.
Verizon has submitted an amicus curiae (friend of the court) brief to the Californian court considering the injunction, arguing that by blocking Samsung device sales the court would damage the prospects of its LTE network.
Of course, Verizon has always been seen as more of an Android supporter, given that arch-rival AT&T had the exclusive US deal with Apple over iPhone sales for years.
Anything you can do
Verizon's brief maintains that an injunction "would hinder Verizon Wireless in developing and deploying its next generation high-speed LTE network, the job growth dependant on that network, and will undercut key public policy goals, including expansion of Americans' access to broadband networks and faster communication with emergency personnel."
Korea-based Samung will be glad of the support, given that it has already seen its Galaxy Tab 10.1 banned in Germany. There was also Apple's victory in the UK over advertising rights to the 'thinnest smartphone.'
Apple isn't getting everything its own way though, with Samsung moving to get the Big A's iPhone 5 banned in Holland and South Korea.
As ever, Foss Patents goes into tremendous detail on the situation if you want to read up about it.
