Nokia has announced it is to bring in-app purchases to the Series 40 platform for the first time, allowing developers to tag on extra levels or content to games.
The first handset to support the service will be the forthcoming Asha 303.
The new monetisation set up is currently being tested as part of the platform's beta program, but will implement both credit card and carrier payment flows the latter reaching out to more than 130 different operators around the globe.
In-app purchase play
"Implementing in-app purchasing can be as simple as using a few simple API calls, without having to worry about payment processing," Nokia announced on the firm's developer blog.
"Developers for Series 40 can start integrating in-app purchasing into their applications for the Nokia Asha 303 today, as part of the In-app purchase for Series 40 beta program.
"The program is designed to ramp up in-app purchasing development in line with the launch and shipping date of the Nokia Asha 303."
Nokia has confirmed IAPs will follow the same 70:30 revenue split as purchases made on its marketplace, with the Asha 303 due to launch at some point in Q4 2011.
