DeNA partners with Alibaba to take Mobage to cloud-based OS Aliyun in China

Demonstrating further flexibility when it comes to expanding the Mobage platform around the globe, DeNA has announced a partnership with Chinese outfit Alibaba.

The deal will see Mobage appear on the firm's cloud-based OS Aliyun, with DeNA also making its development engine ngCore available to Chinese mobile developers through AliCloud – Alibaba's computing technology.

Cloud computations

"We believe our alliance with AliCloud will bring tremendous opportunities to both companies," said DeNA president and representative director Isao Moriyasu.

"Through AliCloud’s innovative mobile OS and cloud services, DeNA will be able to deliver Mobage to even larger user base in China, while also allowing promising Chinese developers to expand their reach to our global user base."

The first devices running Mobage-equipped Aliyun – which is compatible with Android apps – will roll out in China in early 2012, pre-loaded onto K-touch W800 handsets.

Asian aims

"AliCloud is excited to bring Mobage's high-quality mobile games from around the world to K-touch W800 users," added Alibaba president Wang Jian.

"We are looking forward to enriching the Chinese game market through Mobage China, while creating opportunities for Chinese developers to succeed around the world."

DeNA already has a presence in China, but the company has been expanding it operations across Asia in a bid to cement Mobage's grasp in the region.

August saw the launch of the firm's first office in Singapore, while DeNA has also made significant moves in Vietnam, acquiring Punch Entertainment's Hanoi-based studio and signing a deal with Vietnamese internet carrier VNG Corps to bolster the platform's library.
