Madfinger launches sample Shadowgun level in Unity showcase

Stage give pointers on optimising code

Madfinger launches sample Shadowgun level in Unity showcase
In a bid to highlight its engine's prowess, Unity has teamed up with Czech studio Madfinger Games on a 'sample level' designed to show how developers can get the most out of its platform.

The stage, which has been taken from iOS and Android third-person shooter Shadowgun, features a laundry list of pointers and techniques the outfit employed to optimise the code for Unity.

Mad skills

"One of the biggest parts of our job is ensuring that Unity is a highly performant platform for you to deploy to mobile devices, but when it comes to getting the best performance out of your games – that's where you come in," details Unity on its blog.

"So that you’re not in the dark when it comes to optimising your games, we got together with Madfinger Games to offer you a sample level project packed with innovative techniques, to help you learn about the techniques that they employed when creating their game."

It's stressed the level itself is not an example of the game's gameplay as a whole, but rather has purely been constructed to shed light on Unity for those getting to grips with the engine.

Those interested can download the sample level from Unity’s blog, where there's also a series of in-depth videos detailing the level's development, as well as and a run down of the jargon used in the sampler.

The level's launch comes after Unity rolled out version 3.5 of the engine to 800,000 registered developers back in February.
