Gameloft and Marvel have announced the first details of a new Spider-Man title they're developing for release alongside Sony Pictures The Amazing Spider-Man in July.
Labeling it one of its "most promising games" for 2012, Gameloft says The Amazing Spider-Man will be a full 3D action game that will stay faithful to the storyline of the upcoming movie.
The company says players will be able "to explore the city" which, together with confirmation of the 3D engine, has led to speculation that the title will enable free roaming through a crime-infested game world.
Sticking to a winning formula
The two companies previously teamed up to develop last year's excellent Spider-Man: Total Mayhem for iPhone, Android and Xperia Play.
"In addition to being an opportunity for Gameloft to showcase our skills in adapting movies into games, when combined with the fact that this is one of the most popular and commercially successful Super Heroes of all time, after having boasted one of the highest grossing movie franchises in history, we expect this title to be a great success," said Gamelofts Gonzague de Vallois.
The Amazing Spider-Man is slated for release on 3 July on feature phones, iPhones, iPads and Android devices.
