RIM CEO Thorstein Heins has admitted games aren't typically part of the BlackBerry DNA, but claims developer's support for the forthcoming BB 10 will help trigger the platform's fightback.
Speaking to TechCrunch, Heins who took over as CEO back in January said, first and foremost, he is looking for BB 10 to meet the needs of BlackBerry's core, largely enterprise-based, audience.
The addition of games he suggested, however, means consumers won't be left out in the cold either.
Game on
"The pep talk is that we will continue to make the people that use a BlackBerry successful," said Heins when asked how he will appeal to BB's core users.
"That is really the DNA. It just allowed people to manage their life and have a very comfortable way of communicating.
"So the strength in this whole social network and the strength is also in other elements that are not particularly BlackBerry elements, like gaming, because the platform supports it."
However, while games will have a role to play, Heins said RIM wouldn't look to play a hands on role when it comes to serving up top titles.
"We will not develop our own games, but the platform we are building allows game developers to program and to deliver really fantastic-performing games," he concluded.
Heins optimism regarding BB 10 which, he claimed, would get RIM "back in the full touch game" - comes despite the platform's launch being delayed until early 2013.
