Sleepy Giant will keep you up 24/7 with backend services play fofofum

US games-as-a-service outfit Sleepy Giant is looking to take full advantage of the new demand for live operations.

It's announced the formal launch of a group within Sleepy Giant that offers developers a complete backend solution in terms of games and player management.

Called fofofum (nope, we don't know why, either?), it's previously been available as a beta product.

US developer Industrial Toys' forthcoming mobile shooter Midnight Star is based on the infrastructure, while Robot Entertainment also has games in development using it.

Firm foundations

"Game backend management is increasingly difficult with scale, and by leveraging our offerings developers and publishers can streamline their operations and just focus on building great games," said David Lee, Sleepy Giant's CTO, who is stepping up to the role of fofofum president.

In terms of what fofofum is technology-wise, Sleepy Giant describes it as a combination of a game operations engine - supporting everything from PC and web, to mobile and console - with a managed services team.

The result is it claims development times will be reduced and when a game is live, developers have better control in terms of managing resources and issues ranging from accounts to commerce, analytics and messaging.
