As if there weren't already enough smartphone platforms to worry about, 2011 is set to see the concept exploding over every other piece of consumer electronics hardware.
And that means brands.
So it is that Rovio has announced it's bringing Angry Birds to Intel's AppUp store.
Designed to corral software that runs on its Atom chips - as found in netbooks and, in future, tablets too - AppUp launched in September 2010 and has been picking up steam ever since.
Drop a block
Another signature brand is on the move is Tetris. Oberon Media has announced it's signed a deal with The Tetris Company to bring the block stacker to internet-enabled TVs and set top boxes.
Perhaps the only real surprise was that EA didn't want or get the licence. After all, it's demonstrated how powerful Tetris is on mobile, selling 100 million copies of the game since 2005.
As for Oberon, it says its version of Tetris, including a new Space mode, consisting of space-themed mini-games and challenges, will be available for internet-enabled TVs during the first quarter of 2011.
"Tetris is one of the best-selling games of all time, and has positively impacted every platform on which it has been released," said Oberon's senior director of iTV services Jonathan Boltax.
