After persistent rumours surrounding the upcoming Xoom 2, Motorola has finally lifted the lid by officially announcing its latest tablet.
The Xoom 2 will come in both original and Media Edition flavours and are both featured in a trailer showcasing the devices' specifications and features.
Xoom-Xoom
The Xoom 2 is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and runs Android 3.2 with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage.
It boasts a 10.1-inch display with front and rear facing cameras capable of 1.3 and 5 megapixel shots respectively. The screen also features Gorilla Glass scratch resistance and splash-guard protection.
The Media Edition of the Xoom 2 is much the same, apart from the 8.2-inch display. As its name suggests it is optimised for media consumption, with a 178 degree viewing angle whilst promising to be capable of 20-percent more in the graphics department compared to the original Xoom device.
Try again
"Tablets are quickly becoming a must-have tool for staying connected, getting work done and having fun at home and on the road," said Victoria McManus, marketing director for the UK & Ireland arm of Motorola Mobility.
"We are very excited about these two new additions to our tablet portfolio that build on the success of the original Motorola Xoom to now deliver more powerful tablet experiences to the European market."
Both tablets will arrive sometime this month at retailer Carphone Warehouse in the UK and Ireland and Best Buy, Dixons, PC World and Currys in the UK.
So far announcements haven't been made regarding pricing or the devices' releases outside of these markets.
Motorola will be hoping that the new iteration of its Xoom series will prove a bigger success than its predecessor, which managed to ship an estimated 690,000 units. The Xoom has since seen its price cut down to $379.
[UPDATE]
The Xoom 2 will retail at £379.99 ($609), while the Xoom 2 Media Edition will cost £329.99 ($529).
