Windows Phone Marketplace hits 10,000 apps in less time than App Store, Android Market

Windows Phone Marketplace hits 10,000 apps in less time than App Store, Android Market
The sheer regularity of stories detailing the number of apps listed for sale on Windows Phone Marketplace is a testament to the pace at which the platform is growing.

It's also partly down to the relative ease of reaching supposed 'milestones' when starting from scratch.

Nonetheless, while rivals such as Apple's App Store and Android Market might already boast apps in the hundreds of thousands, the fact Microsoft's marketplace has reached 10,000 titles in less time than both is an accolade the Redmond giant will most likely celebrate.

App happy

The latest app total comes courtesy of WindowsPhoneAppList.com, which claims there are now 10,483 apps on the store.

In short, that means developers have added 1,483 apps in the last week alone – an average of around 212 new apps every day.

More broadly speaking, it's taken Windows Phone 7 less than five months since launch to hit 10,000 apps – an overall rate of 2,000 new apps every month.

Games come out on top as the most popular category, accounting for 23 percent of all apps listed on the marketplace.
