San Francisco-based mobile developer Pixowl has completed its seed funding round.
The studio behind games such as Doodle Grub, which has had 8 million downloads, and Safari Party raised $1.2 million through the Angel List.
Investors include 500 Startups, Kima Ventures, Pymar Venture, Art.com founder Joshua Chodniewicz, and tech entrepreneurs Martin Varsavsky and Fabrice Grinda.
Day Of Wonder CEO Eric Hautemont, and former Disney Mobile GM Sunil Gunderia are now members of the Pixowl advisory board.
Burrowing up
Pixowl, which has its development team in Buenos Aires, Argentina, is currently working on a casual free-to-play mobile world Greedy Grub.
It will use the investment to extend the Grub franchise and character , with additional games toys, comic books and merchandising planned.
"Pixowl's Grub is a fun, memorable game character that appeals to both kids and their parents," said Dave McClure, Founding Partner, 500 Startups.
"Pixowl has a scalable business plan, an experienced team and sure-hit IPs."
