Welcome to the weekly iPhone Quality Index (Qi) games round-up, giving you the LOWdown on the HIGH scorers every Friday on these illustrious pages.
As you may already know, Qi trawls the web for iPhone game reviews from the worlds most respected online and print sources.
Qi then applies its own magic formula to each site (such as 148Apps, Macworld, and AppGamer) to establish a single definitive Qi score for each iPhone app and game.
You do know Jack
Travelling through time, space, and up the Quality Index leaderboard into top spot comes Jack of All Tribes, a village-management game set in a prehistoric period teeming with violent barbarians (is there any other kind?).
After somehow managing to discover the worlds only funfair ride that doubles as a time machine, our titular hero winds up thousands of years in the past and charged with sculpting a civilisation from primitive means.
On the road to forging a more enlightened and sophisticated world for the villagers, Jack must solve a range of hidden object puzzles, which uncover artefacts crucial for his return to the modern day.
Among the trio of critiques which have contributed to Jacks phenomenal 9.7 Qi rating is Slide to Plays take on G5s latest critical hit: Jack of All Tribes looks good, has a fun theme, and for the most part, it controls well.
Ascend to the Qi throne
A little preamble - Ascension: Chronicle of the Godslayer is a fast-paced deck-building boardgame (conceived by three Magic the Gathering tournament champs) in which players spend Runes to acquire more powerful cards.
Ascension: Chronicle of the Godslayer on iPhone is the first officially licensed version for the platform, so should, in theory, provide the same enthralling, engaging, and strategic gaming experience as its board brethren.
Perhaps unsurprisingly for its publisher Playdek, Ascension: Chronicle of the Godslayer has risen to second place on the Qi chart, the gorgeous hand-drawn artwork by the original illustrator Eric Sabee and the asynchronous multiplayer support contributing to its monstrous score.
The latter point was picked up on by Gamezebos resident card shark, who conceded that I just love the fact that I always have someone to play against, and having the scoring taken care of just lets you concentrate on playing and getting better.
You can get the up-to-date information about which games are reviewing best over at the Quality Index.
