Another week, another Android tablet has hit the market. Not ones to shy away from a good excuse for a debate, we here at PG.biz put the following question to our Gaming Mavens.

What do you think about Kindle Fire and Amazon's role in the Android ecosystem, and will it only impact on sales of other Android tablets rather than iPad?

While the Mavens agreed up front that the original Kindle was a fantastic device, they weren't necessarily sold on the idea of the Kindle Fire being an iPad beater.

Opinion: Pirates will never buy your game, but they can signify its popularity

In the wake of the news that My Star's top in-app purchase is being hit by a 93% piracy rate thanks to a new shady tool dubbed iAP Cracker, our own Keith Andrew took to the soap box to give his take on piracy's brighter side.

"I simply don't buy the argument that those pirating games, or even in-app purchases, equate to lost sales," said Andrew.

"If anything, the fact the users in question have targeted their titles suggests to me that there's something of a positive buzz around the game in question – that people are talking about it."

Facebook games are an unsustainable business strategy, reckons mobile social producer Tami Baribeau

"Facebook is a viable strategy, but it shouldn't be any company's entire strategy. It is far too volatile and risky at this point."

These are the opinions of guest author Tami Baribeau, formerly of Metaplace, Playdom, PopCap Games and now of The Playforge, who took to the pages of PG.biz in an attempt to warn would be Facebook developers of the risks they may face.

"In Facebookland, I've been noticing a sad trend in the way businesses are operated in terms of title churn," she says.

"Facebook games are simply not sustainable."

Zynga launches its first mobile game with location-based elements, Dream Zoo

The fact Zynga has released an iOS game based around zoo animal breeding and nurturing is hardly worthy of a headline, given the popularity of the genre and the social gaming giant's aggressive push into mobile during 2011.
Dream Zoo is significant, however, as being the first time the company has used location-based elements in its mobile games.

Sony reveals European PS Vita launch line up, including new titles Unit 13 and MotorStorm RC

We'd already heard about the Japanese launch line-up for Sony's upcoming handheld powerhouse, but now consumers in Europe have more of an idea of what to expect when the PS Vita hits their shores on 22 February 2012.

First party titles include some we've seen before at events such as E3 and Gamescom (Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Reality Fighters and Escape Plan) and two new titles that have just been revealed, Unit 13 and MotorStorm RC.
