With metrics one of the most controversial subjects in game design and deployment at the moment, there's clearly a need for developers to be able to use all the data they're collecting.
That's where companies such Kontagent come into play.
With a strong reputation in the Facebook and web world, the US analytics company is now moving into mobile.
After a year-long beta, it's just launched the mobile-focused element of its kSuite platform for iOS and Android.
"It's all about retention and monetisation," explains Josh Williams, Kontagent's president and chief science officer.
"We provide developers with the hard data they need to see what their players are doing and make their games a better experience."
Know your audience
Of course, considering its success in the web world, where it tracks over 1 billion daily events for companies such as Ubisoft, Time Warner, EA, Tencent, Daum and Peak Games, it's no surprise that Williams is adamant that metrics are the key to success for game developers.
"It's vital to be analytics driven. We've seen that on Facebook and mobile is quickly evolving that way too," he argues.
Yet, to get the most out of what kSuite offers, Williams says developers have to take the integration process seriously.
"It's not spray and pray. We work closely with clients to ensure they instrument their apps properly, measure the right things and collect valid data."
Selective partners
Similarly, Kontagent isn't looking to work with thousands of companies. Only developers of sufficient scale in terms of their revenue can sign up.
"We're an enterprise solution, not a self service operation," he remarks.
The licensing for kSuite revolves around a base free for support and account management, combined with a usage fee based on the number of monthly active users supported.
"It's a simple model. We're successful if our customers are successful," Williams says, although with the company recently closing a $12 million funding round, it's got some headroom in terms of priming the market.
