Here's an interesting approach to sourcing games.
UK publisher Connect2Media has hooked up with Tokyo-based Interarrows and Middlesborough-based DigitalCity Business to roll out the Game a Day Java subscription service.
Pricing hasn't been announced yet but it's described as a 'low cost, value for money, subscription games service'.
Games will be sourced by Interarrows from Japanese Flash developers. Apparently, around a half of Japanese mobile consumers regularly play such mini-games on their phones.
Direct and fresh from East
"This joint venture represents the culmination of nearly two years work in assessing the market, researching the offer and creating a team to deliver the plan," said Interarrows MD, Yoji Otokasawa.
"The Game A Day offering is a fresh approach to mobile entertainment about which many of our biggest clients have already been very positive," added Connect2Media's CEO, Eric Hobson.
"It will allow us to deliver fun new games in a fresh way and reach consumers who would never have previously purchased entertainment content on their mobiles."
DigitalCity Business will manage and build the service, with Connect2Media handling publishing and marketing thanks to its relationship with key global carriers.
Longer term ambitions for the service include game-centric advertising-funded online communities.
The project is part financed by the European Union and European Regional Development Fund 2007-13.
